Food House Sitting New Zealand Photography travel

Martinborough Wine Tasting

One of the reasons we were so excited to get this house sit here in Martinborough was the proliferation of wineries in the area. We were not disappointed. During our ten day stay we dedicated three days to visiting cellar doors. We managed to stop in at 15 of the closest wineries with varying degrees of success.

Palliser Wines

The variety of vineyards was very interesting. From the very classy looking, well maintained and well staffed Palliser Wines…
The Cabbage Tree Vineyard
To places like The Cabbage Tree Vineyard where they have gone for the down to earth approach. Unfortunately even after ringing the bell and waiting, no-one ever showed up to offer a tasting. Luckily there was another vineyard right next door.

By far our two favourite wineries were Schubert Wines and Muirlea Rise Winery. As is always the case, it is the people that make the difference. The wine was rather tasty as well.

Great wine and a wonderful lady behind the counter who took the time to connect.

Martinborough is a lovely scenic town that lives for wine. If you are ever in New Zealand visit this town, rent a bike and embrace the experience.

SaveSave

Welcome to our travel blog. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to say, "I'm out of here?" Well we did, and in 2013 we made it a reality. We sold or gave away all of our possessions other than what fit in our luggage and we set off on an endless adventure. Part of our goal is to share our experiences with others and hopefully provide some information, motivation, or just a moments escape. The general idea was to look for a place that would be ideal to settle down in. However in the meantime it is about experiencing life in different countries amongst different cultures and learning how to understand and appreciate each other. A large part of our time is spent housesitting which provides an excellent opportunity to experience more of the "normal" neighbourhoods as opposed to the tourist locales. Though we make sure to enjoy those as well. So through plenty of photographs and a running commentary come and share with us our life on the road.
