Australia House Sitting Photography travel

House Sitting Ruminating

As we start to wind down our time in Australia and head north to our final house sit near Cairns in Queensland it causes me to fully appreciate what a wonderful lifestyle house sitting has provided us. Our two house sits in the Melbourne area allowed us to explore the sights of Melbourne CBD as well as relax and soak in suburban life in the beautiful village of Keilor.

Keilor Village
Being able to immerse ourselves in the ‘small town’ vibe of Keilor while being just a short trip from Melbourne was wonderful. Shopping the local shops and meeting locals while out walking the dog was what, for us, house sitting is all about.

While in Keilor we were able to get a glimpse of some proper Aussie summer weather, 44C for days on end. But also the experience of having temperature drops 15 degrees in 15 minutes that were unbelievable if you don’t actually feel it. The other advantage of weather like that is it gets you out very early walking the dog and you can enjoy the sights that only are available at sunrise.

Brimbank Park
The morning views while walking or running in Brimbank Park were beautiful. It is always a joy to find places like this so near to busy cities.
Morning Coffee
No matter where we are house sitting and what the weather is we cannot help but have our hearts melted by the love that the pets we are looking after show us. This was a rare cool morning in Melbourne when it was perfect to have this big fella curl up beside you.

As we get settled in and reacquainted with the Cairns area we are very excited to spend the next couple of months experiencing “The Wet” in this part of northern Queensland.

Welcome to our travel blog. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to say, "I'm out of here?" Well we did, and in 2013 we made it a reality. We sold or gave away all of our possessions other than what fit in our luggage and we set off on an endless adventure. Part of our goal is to share our experiences with others and hopefully provide some information, motivation, or just a moments escape. The general idea was to look for a place that would be ideal to settle down in. However in the meantime it is about experiencing life in different countries amongst different cultures and learning how to understand and appreciate each other. A large part of our time is spent housesitting which provides an excellent opportunity to experience more of the "normal" neighbourhoods as opposed to the tourist locales. Though we make sure to enjoy those as well. So through plenty of photographs and a running commentary come and share with us our life on the road.
