Adaptability…..The Name of the Game

I am choosing not to get into all the hype, moaning, and complaining about the current world situation. Have we been massively inconvenienced by this virus, yes, just like millions of others. However, for those of us that have chosen a nomadic like lifestyle, honestly, this is just one more adventure. If anything I am having more trouble coping with our excessively brown, cold spring. But, like everything else it will improve.

I am intensely pleased by the amount of positive posts I have seen on social media. This in part is due to an aggressive use of  the “30  day snooze” feature on Facebook. I love all my friends, but  some people need to give it  a rest.

Housesitting is  about adaptability and looking for  opportunities. Fortunately for us we happened to be in our “home” city  when everything went sideways. The support and assistance we have received from friends and family has been uplifting.

Our long term house sit ended a week early in late March (no problem) and we had to say goodbye to these three characters.

Our next two short term sits disappeared within days of each other. All expected and reasonable decisions by all parties involved.

Admittedly we  were very disappointed when our next 6 month sit from May to November was cancelled, but once again a reasonable decision and very well handled by the owner. Given our less than stellar spring, this view will very much be missed.

We are currently hunkered down at Karen’s Mom’s place (man am I lucky to get along so well with my Mother-in-law!) and starting each day looking for wildlife  out the front window.

Part of our daily excitement is looking for Harold (Karen has named him). Watching this bunny change colour daily as we are inundated with snow provides a certain degree of entertainment.

On the house sitting front we are curious and optimistic to see what is going to develop over the next year. I, for one, believe we will slowly return to “normal”, albeit  with minor changes in behaviour and procedures learned from this current situation. As opportunities present themselves we will pursue them, and who knows what direction these opportunities will take us. We will adapt and we will continue to enjoy our lives. I hope all of you do as well.

On our walk yesterday we saw our first robin of the year. A sure sign of spring, and hope.
