Something wonderful I truly enjoy about our lifestyle is being able to have the time to stop and take in the beauty and wonder that surrounds all of us. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, there is beauty around every corner. One just has to stop and take it in.

Reaching for the sun
As we move into the rainy season here there tends to be more cloud than blue sky. But at some point every day the clouds clear and we get a chance to soak in some sun.

Birds are the most common visitors we get. It is a constant challenge to try and capture their images.

Myna birds
The myna birds tidying up after the dogs meals.
Javan Myna
Or these Javan myna birds collecting their own food.
White-faced Herons
These white-faced herons grace us with their presence periodically.

Sometimes you have to look a little closer to find the creatures.

Insects
As in everywhere in the world, insects are prevalent. I don’t mind these little fellows. However I did have his larger yellow cousin sting me in the face last week. Doesn’t matter where we go, I do not like wasps. Just saying.
Caterpillars
Noticed this little fellow traversing the deck the other day.
Coconut Stick Insect
I have met a couple of these fellows so far. I’ll come walking out of the trees and they have been crawling down my side. I think it is a coconut stick insect. Made me jump out of my skin the first time I reached down and felt it crawling along.

Of course we continue to learn about harvesting and enjoying the food nature provides.

Chilis
There are several of these bushes around the yard. Adding a few of these tasty chilis to our cooking keeps things spicy and warm.
Coconut peeler
I have quite enjoyed learning how to peel the outer husk off of the coconut shells we find newly fallen from the trees. A brilliantly simply idea.
Banana Harvest
The steady and overwhelming supply of bananas has helped fine tune my banana loaf recipe, as well as up our intake of bananas in nearly everything else possible.

Life is good.
