One of the reasons we were so excited to get this house sit here in Martinborough was the proliferation of wineries in the area. We were not disappointed. During our ten day stay we dedicated three days to visiting cellar doors. We managed to stop in at 15 of the closest wineries with varying degrees of success.
This was a bit of a disappointment. We stopped in to try their wears and never got a sip. After waiting for 15 minutes without any service we headed on. The owners need to step up and have more staff on hand. One hard working lady on a weekend is simply pushing business away.
The variety of vineyards was very interesting. From the very classy looking, well maintained and well staffed Palliser Wines…To places like The Cabbage Tree Vineyard where they have gone for the down to earth approach. Unfortunately even after ringing the bell and waiting, no-one ever showed up to offer a tasting. Luckily there was another vineyard right next door.
By far our two favourite wineries were Schubert Wines and Muirlea Rise Winery. As is always the case, it is the people that make the difference. The wine was rather tasty as well.
Muirlea Winery had a great laid back attitude and simply wanted you to enjoy good wine.
While complying with safety regulations they also nailed the important things in life.
Muirlea Rise Winery
Great wine and a wonderful lady behind the counter who took the time to connect.Martinborough is a lovely scenic town that lives for wine. If you are ever in New Zealand visit this town, rent a bike and embrace the experience.
Another massive dreamboard-worthy experience, thanks for painting the vision Dad <3
