We have settled into our new location in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Though this isn’t really a house sit, per se, it certainly has a lot of similarities. Karen and I have embraced the quasi-isolated nature of looking after this property and are very much enjoying it. As well, our Spanish language skills are improving nicely. I am sure the people we try to talk with are convinced we are functionally illiterate, however we are noticing an improvement.
One thing is for certain, there is no lack of birds to keep us entertained. At consistent times everyday we have flights of pelicans fly by on the beach side of the property and multiple flights of parrots go by every afternoon on the inland side of the property.
With all the birds, I am loving the challenge of trying to capture some decent shots of our feathered friends. It is not always as easy as one would hope. These Great Kiskadees are providing me with the most practice.A pair of Great Kiskadees have a nest in the tree over the pool which makes for the perfect situation. Stay cool in the pool and work on my photo skills at the same time. Loving life.I have managed to get a couple of shots of these birds in flight, very satisfying I must say.In addition to the birds, there are of course no shortage of other creatures to observe. It is funny how quickly you learn to accept things that are new to you. These fellows set up some of the most impressive webs I’ve seen. They can be a bit disconcerting as they are about 3 – 4 cm long.
On the more entertaining side are the JC lizards, or common basilisks. We frequently find these guys relaxing on the backs of the couches. I tried to capture the questionable grace they show when running. Rather funny.
The weather at this time of year is a bit damper than most enjoy. The reality is in Central America that the rainy season means heavy rain at night and some evenings. However, a day rarely goes by where we don’t get a bit of beautiful blue sky.Fortunately, that usually coincides with “Happy Hour”Life is pretty darn good here.
Michelle and I, absolutely loved Popa Paradise during our stay in March 2019. We would highly recommend this little know gem in Panama and the owners, who are from Alberta are so gracious and friendly. Enjoy life in Paradise Peter and Karen!!!
