Canada House Sitting Photography travel

British Columbia Road Trip

We have had an absolutely fantastic time during our 10 week swing through beautiful British Columbia. Through Karen’s organizational skills we ended up doing five house sits in five different locations around southern BC.

We ran the gambit of animal personalities from dogs that were deaf, to obsessed with squirrels, to chickens that were just a little too curious at times.

To blind Truffle who stole our hearts and melted away any self control we had.

3200km on the rental car allowed us to see some areas that we were not very familiar with.

Our last stop in Kelowna was the icing on the cake. We enjoyed a wonderful dog, Murphy, and had the opportunity to explore the area in and around Kelowna.

The Myra Canyon Trestle Trail was spectacular. It is so nice to see when groups work together to preserve and make accessible areas of such history and natural beauty. We managed to walk to 7 of the trestles and one of the tunnels. Very cool.

Kelowna has a very nice Cultural District and it is first rate with location and amenities. However, their focus is on sculpture and for me it took a back seat to the wall murals in Vernon. It is something everyone should check out for themselves and decide what they prefer.

Another awesome aspect of our road trip was being able to catch up with a number of friends that we have not seen in way too long and to start to build some new friendships. Who knew we had so many connections in BC.

In Salmon Arm we were able to catch up with our friend Kevin who gave us the royal treatment. I am not sure about the 6AM hot yoga class, but the afternoon on Shuswap Lake then a morning at the shooting range was an absolute joy and a fantastic way to relax.

Mission Creek Greenway, Kelowna.

Without a doubt we will be planning another long slow trip through British Columbia. The weather, along with the great diversity of landscape, make it a top choice to explore further. In the meantime we are busy repacking and getting ready to return to travelling by air. Montreal, here we come!

Welcome to our travel blog. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to say, "I'm out of here?" Well we did, and in 2013 we made it a reality. We sold or gave away all of our possessions other than what fit in our luggage and we set off on an endless adventure. Part of our goal is to share our experiences with others and hopefully provide some information, motivation, or just a moments escape. The general idea was to look for a place that would be ideal to settle down in. However in the meantime it is about experiencing life in different countries amongst different cultures and learning how to understand and appreciate each other. A large part of our time is spent housesitting which provides an excellent opportunity to experience more of the "normal" neighbourhoods as opposed to the tourist locales. Though we make sure to enjoy those as well. So through plenty of photographs and a running commentary come and share with us our life on the road.
