Christmas Day Away

Christmas greetings to all.

2013 marks the first year for the two of us to be away from all family and friends during Christmas. Certainly a tougher prospect than I ever anticipated. On previous Christmas’s when we have travelled we have always been fortunate enough to have our boys with us or other family members. This year it is just the two of us. Before you start sending your condolences, it wasn’t that bad, just different. As much as we view ourselves as independent people, we do both truly enjoy the camaraderie of those we love and care about.

What does one do when separated from those you would normally spend the day with. Well, first off start with a wonderful 5km run down the beach. Just gorgeous with the sun sparkling off the water. Follow that with an incredibly tasty breakfast of eggs Benedict and you are off to a heck of a start.

Thanks to the miracle of technology we are still able to have wonderful face to face conversation with friends and family throughout the day. We went for a wonderful stroll down the beach in the afternoon and stopped at our favourite watering hole to wish the staff a Merry Christmas.

Went for a fantastic, if somewhat pricey dinner at Aji Restaurant. The lobster and steak were excellent and the service was fantastic. Half the fun was the 2.5km ride in the dark to get to the restaurant on our bikes.

Great wine and great food, life is good.

On returning to our place we were fortunate enough to be able to connect via FaceTime with our family at home. Overall, a great day!

To everyone, Merry Christmas!

Welcome to our travel blog. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to say, "I'm out of here?" Well we did, and in 2013 we made it a reality. We sold or gave away all of our possessions other than what fit in our luggage and we set off on an endless adventure. Part of our goal is to share our experiences with others and hopefully provide some information, motivation, or just a moments escape. The general idea was to look for a place that would be ideal to settle down in. However in the meantime it is about experiencing life in different countries amongst different cultures and learning how to understand and appreciate each other. A large part of our time is spent housesitting which provides an excellent opportunity to experience more of the "normal" neighbourhoods as opposed to the tourist locales. Though we make sure to enjoy those as well. So through plenty of photographs and a running commentary come and share with us our life on the road.
