Our last week in Puerto Morelos has been a hectic one. But it also has been an intensely satisfying one. We enjoyed our last day of diving cenotes, then had our two sons and daughter-in-law join us for the week around Christmas. It truly was Feliz Navidad.

Under the watchful eye of our Dive Master Shawn we prepped our gear and checked the percentages of our nitrox. The Dive Masters at Elite Divers International were fantastic. Professional, competent, and generally just nice guys.
We dove the cenote/sinkhole Angelita first then headed to Car Wash for our final dive. It was epic. We also had the pleasure of meeting a bonafide TikTok influencer, Scuba Dan @scubadan. It was fascinating getting a bit more understanding of a phenomenon for which still leaves me shaking my head. Interesting guy though. Also posts on Instagram under @scubadanadventures.
An incredible Hydrogen Sulphide cloud was the highlife of the dive at Angelita.

Once the diving was done we headed to the airport to pick up family. To say it was emotional would be an understatement. It was the perfect way to start the final week of Karen’s birthday month.

It was fun showing Puerto Morelos and area to them. Everyone loved the fresh guacamole we had at every restaurant we went to.
Mary, our daughter-in-law, had never been to Mexico before so it was a joy introducing her to some of the local inhabitants. Sadly, no monkeys showed up for her.
We chose to do a totally tourist day trip to Isla Mujeres, out of Cancun. What a blast! The snorkelling was fun, exploring the island was full of great memories, and the booze cruise back was awesome.
So proud of Steven stepping up to lead off the tequila tasting. Our faces hurt from laughing so much.
We had plenty of rain, but whenever we were exploring the skies seemed to clear and we enjoyed some perfect weather. We preferred the beach in Playa del Carmen to the 5th Ave shopping hell.
Though we all enjoyed relaxing by the pool, we did do one more day trip. The cenote Kin Ha and Blanca Flor were highly recommended.
The young ones did the zip line at Blanca Flor cenote and we all swam around a bit. As a cenote I was a bit disappointed. A great place to horse around, but not much to see. However Kin Ha was much better. Whereas as Blanca Flor is simply a sinkhole, Kin Ha was a proper cavern which just makes it cooler.
You truly feel like you are entering the underworld at Kin Ha.
They have a zip line course set up at Kin Ha. Steven and Mary chose to give it a go.
It wasn’t difficult to pick out who the performers were in the group.
And yes, she stuck the landing.

December has been a fantastic month and Puerto Morelos has treated us very well. The joy of spending time with family and friends, away from the distractions of day to day life has been the best gifts we ever could wish for. We look forward to doing it again.

Now it is off to Merida for some relaxation and perhaps some exploration.
